A Covid Wedding

After a long 15 months, I finally coordinated a wedding at the church last weekend. For the last 20 years, coordinating weddings have been so much
a part of my life. So many wedding cancellations and postponements have taken place all because of Covid 19. Last year we only had 2 weddings inside the church and 1 outside on the church grounds. I didn’t realize how much I’ve missed this part of my wedding life. The people, the conversations,
my impeccable coordinating directions and my one true desire that my
couple’s have the wedding they dreamed of.

This wedding was by far the 1st of it’s kind for me. The ceremony happened outside the church building, in the parking lot. An elevated platform is set up with an altar in place. Social distancing was mandatory with only a small amount of chairs set up for the wedding party. Any guests who attended the service had to stay in their cars while the ceremony took place. And if you didn’t come to the church, you could watch the ceremony live streamed.

Besides coordinating Elizabeth and Oscar’s wedding, I made a special bouquet that was placed on an empty chair, symbolizing the absence of Oscar’s mother, who passed away several years prior. Losing a mother is never easy, no matter how old you are. And missing her on your wedding day makes it that much harder.

A lovely wedding arch was set up in the parking and it was the starting point where everyone processed through. I designed a couple of fresh flower arrangements to add to the corners of the tied back curtains.
The arch just made you forget, if only for a moment, that a wedding was taking place and it didn’t matter that you were not inside the church.

We all witnessed a couple coming together, bound by love and hope for brighter days ahead. Their journey has begun, with Christ at their side. What a great way to start 2021.
